Appraisal Encrypted Backups
A recovery tool for the owner of Targa Appraisal's private claim-management application.
Current status
As of October 3, 2026, this backup system is being configured. Nightly backups and automatic cleanup are not active, and recovery from a real backup has not yet been verified.
What the tool is for
The planned nightly backup preserves application database records, account and recovery records, stored documents, and an encrypted recovery-configuration package. It processes the export in Google Cloud, encrypts the archive before uploading it to the owner's private Google Drive, and checks the uploaded copy.
Google Drive authorization
The owner authorizes a separate Google application to create and manage backup files. It requests drive.file access: files the application creates or the owner explicitly selects for it, rather than the entire Drive. This permission is not a folder-only sandbox. The worker is designed to use the designated backup folder.
Recovery and retention
The planned retention is seven daily calendar days plus a monthly snapshot kept until the owner changes that policy. Cleanup stays disabled until recovery is verified. When enabled, it moves only eligible managed backups to Trash and preserves monthly and protected recovery copies; it does not permanently delete them.
Original email bodies and Drive files that have not been imported into the application are outside this archive. A backup is not a guarantee of recovery: document checks, account access, and MFA must be tested in an isolated recovery environment.
